Dear Friends,

We are pleased to announce that Centro Legal de la Raza's Board of Directors has appointed Bianca Sierra as the new Executive Director.

Bianca served as the Interim Executive Director beginning in July 2008 and had previously been an active member of the Board of Directors of Centro Legal for over a year.  The daughter of Mexican immigrants, Bianca grew up in the East Bay and attended Stanford University, receiving both her Bachelor's degree in 1999 and law degree in 2004.

Prior to joining Centro Legal de la Raza, Bianca worked as a corporate associate at two nationally known law firms, Cooley Godward Kronish LLP and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP.  During her time at these two firms, Bianca remained committed to social justice issues.  Her pro bono work included obtaining asylum in the United States for a Tibetan monk and advising a non-profit organization focused on providing micro-enterprise grants to women in Africa.

In addition to her varied legal experience, Bianca also brings the knowledge and skills she acquired working in student services at both Stanford University and the University of California, San Diego prior to going to law school.

We are excited about announcing our selection of Bianca Sierra to lead Centro Legal as its Executive Director. Bianca is a talented lawyer who has demonstrated a deep commitment to legal services and social justice issues. She has the experience to take the helm of this organization and she has earned the respect of the Centro staff, funders and board. We are looking forward to working with Bianca in addressing the legal needs of the Oakland low income community.

Thank you for your continued support of Centro Legal de la Raza.  With your help we look forward to continuing the fight for social justice that Centro Legal started 40 years ago, and that continues to this day and beyond.

¡Adelante!

- Centro Legal de la Raza's Board of Directors
