Advocacy, Impact & Community Work

Although Centro Legal's primary mission is to provide direct legal services to those individuals and families in greatest need, Centro Legal is also consistently involved in important impact litigation and policy work that will more broadly benefit the low-income and immigrant communities that we serve. We make effective use of our unique "on-the-ground," direct legal service experience to provide support and information to nonprofit and community organizations who promote legal and policy changes that will benefit our clients and communities.

Most recently, Centro Legal founded the Oakland Municipal ID Campaign, which aims to create a municipal ID for all residents of Oakland. Inspired by a similar campaign in San Francisco, the campaign is a broad-based coalition of numerous community stakeholders including Black Alliance for Just Immigration, East Bay La Raza Lawyers Association’s Immigrant Rights Committee, Green Party of Alameda County, and Oakland Community Action Network.

To get involved or endorse the campaign, contact the campaign organizers at oaklandcityidcard at gmail dot com.
