Kaitlin Kalna Darwal
Kaitlin manages Centro Legal’s Immigration Pro Bono program. The Immigration Pro Bono Project seeks to increase and promote access to justice through Pro Bono partnerships. Kaitlin engages and supervises Pro Bono partners in providing full representation to children and families seeking asylum in removal proceedings and in assisting individuals complete applications for relief in clinic settings. Kaitlin manages our Volunteer Interpreter Project and our Pro Bono Mental Health Project, both of which enable Centro Legal’s clients to access services that are essential to their immigration cases.
Prior to joining Centro Legal, Kaitlin was a senior immigration attorney and supervisor of the Humanitarian Relief Program in the immigration program at the Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto (“CLSEPA”). During her time at CLSEPA, Kaitlin represented individuals in their immigration proceedings, developed the asylum program, and supervised pro bono attorneys in immigration matters. Kaitlin has also worked as a deportation defense attorney at Van Der Hout, Brigagliano & Nightingale, LLP, an attorney with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in the U.S. Legal Unit, and a contract attorney with the Center for Gender and Refugee Studies and the CSS/Newman Special Master of Appeals.
Kaitlin received her law degree at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and her undergraduate degree from Boston University.
