As the Tenants’ Rights Grants and Contracts Manager Brenda manages funding for Centro Legal’s housing work. She coordinates with program and finance staff to apply for funding; maintains existing contracts with government and foundation funders; responds to funder requests, and completes narrative and data grant reporting in partnership with the senior program analyst, among other tasks.
Prior to Centro Legal, Brenda worked at Humanmade in San Francisco supporting their advanced manufacturing workforce development program, and at Housing and Economic Rights Advocates (HERA) in Oakland providing administrative support for client work and consumer litigation. Brenda has previously volunteered as an interpreter for affirmative asylum cases, and as an election poll worker in Alameda County.
Brenda received her bachelor’s degree in International Political Economy, and Hispanic International Studies from the University of Puget Sound. She is pursuing a master’s in Public Administration from California State University, Easy Bay. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her cats, Perla and Mark, and tending to the many houseplants she accumulated during quarantine.
